Jonny Clayton defeats Luke Humphries to win Swiss Darts Trophy

Jonny Clayton secured his first ranking title of the season by defeating Luke Humphries in the final of the Swiss Darts Trophy. The Welshman, ranked world number five, triumphed with an 8-4 victory over the world number two, also earning a spot in November’s Grand Slam of Darts.

Clayton navigated a challenging path through the tournament, opening with a 6-4 win over Rob Cross in the last 16. He followed that with a dominant 6-2 victory against Karel Sedlacek early in the evening session before overcoming world number three Gian van Veen 7-4 to reach the final.

Humphries had advanced to the showpiece event with convincing wins over Krzysztof Ratajski (6-0), Cristo Reyes (6-3), and Mensur Suljovic (7-4), looking to build on his recent success at the World Grand Prix.

The final was closely contested statistically, with both players recording nearly identical averages—101.75 for Humphries and 101.68 for Clayton. However, Clayton’s superior finishing proved decisive. He hit six 180s compared to Humphries’ four and maintained a checkout success rate of 61.54%, significantly higher than Humphries’ 22.22%.

The turning point came at 4-4, where Clayton closed out four consecutive legs to seal the match. The win marks a significant milestone for Clayton, who has been in strong form throughout the Euro Tour event in Basel.
