Criticism Mounts Over US-Russia Diesel Agreement Amid Ceasefire Claims

President Donald Trump’s agreement with Moscow to allow Russian diesel fuel into the United States and global markets encountered escalating criticism on Sunday, shortly before he declared an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

The arrangement is designed to have Russia immediately release 300,000 tons of diesel to help alleviate growing concerns about rising energy costs tied to global fuel supplies.

Despite the administration’s push to lower prices, lawmakers from both political parties have voiced strong opposition to the deal. The backlash intensified further after reports emerged that Russia struck a Ukrainian power plant shortly after Trump claimed the energy truce was in effect.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Kyiv is awaiting specific details from Washington regarding the status of the claimed energy ceasefire.
