British Prime Minister Andy Burnham cautioned voters in France and Germany regarding the possibility of Russian interference in their forthcoming elections. This warning follows the UK’s own experience with foreign influence during the 2016 referendum on European Union membership, which Burnham described as clearly compromised.
Despite Burnham’s assertions, Moscow has consistently denied any involvement in the Brexit vote. Former British leader Boris Johnson also dismissed claims of meddling in 2020, stating there was no evidence to support such allegations.
Burnham shared these observations in an interview with The Rest is Politics podcast, which was published on Sunday.
Love a good podcast recommendation. The Rest is Politics is always brilliant. Will definitely listen to this episode.
Johnson dismissed these claims back then, yet here we are. A bit rich coming from him now, isn’t it?
Moscow denies it, but the 2016 interference was widely documented. Better safe than sorry for our European allies.
Interesting that Burnham brings this up now. Do we really have proof, or is this just political fear-mongering?
