East Riding of Yorkshire expands free mental health support ahead of World Mental Health Day

Residents across East Yorkshire are being urged to utilize free mental health services as World Mental Health Day approaches. The East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Wellbeing for Us programme provides resources specifically designed for adults aged 18 and older.

The initiative aims to foster social connections and build confidence while working to diminish feelings of isolation. Support offerings include face-to-face workshops and informal peer support social groups, covering subjects such as stress management, anxiety control, and self-esteem enhancement.

Additionally, the council stated that the programme assists participants in navigating broader support networks, including referrals to NHS services, community organizations, and other health providers. Workshops are currently operating on a rolling schedule in towns such as Bridlington, Beverley, Driffield, Goole, Pocklington, Hornsea, Withernsea, and Hessle.

Informal peer support gatherings are also available in Goole and at Lelley Fields Crematorium, with further sessions planned for the future. Drop-in sessions are similarly being held in Goole and at the crematorium. The campaign coincides with World Mental Health Day, observed annually on October 10.

  1. Will these services also be available online? Not everyone can travel to towns like Bridlington or Beverley easily.

  2. I had no idea they offered drop-ins at the crematorium. That seems like an unusual but thoughtful location for peer support.

  3. Great initiative. It is so important that these workshops are free and accessible to everyone in the area.
