Nine individuals, among them minors, were found dead at a home in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday following a mass shooting that ended with the suspect’s death. Authorities confirmed that a man fatally shot eight people inside the residence before taking his own life.
Police arrived at the scene around 5 p.m. local time. The victims have not yet been publicly identified, but officials stated that seven of the deceased were relatives of the gunman and one was a family friend.
Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah addressed the media during a news conference on Saturday. He emphasized that it was too early to determine a definitive motive for the rampage but indicated that mental health concerns may have been a contributing factor. Lorah also described the incident as appearing to stem from a domestic dispute and confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The suspect died following a standoff with law enforcement at the house.
Another senseless act of violence. When does it stop? So sad.
Mental health support is clearly failing families. We need better systems before tragedies like this happen.
My thoughts are with the families. Such a tragic end to a weekend.
Is there any update on when the victims will be identified? Waiting for more details.
Heartbreak. Nine lives, including children, gone. This is devastating news.
