Trump Defends Russian Diesel Decision, Tells Zelensky to ‘Get a New Leader’

On Saturday, President Donald Trump issued a sharp rebuttal to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding the administration’s recent move to lift sanctions on Russian diesel. Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump doubled down on the decision while lambasting Kyiv’s leadership.

Trump asserted that Zelensky had multiple opportunities to bring the conflict to a close but declined to do so. “He could have settled this war many times, but chose not to,” Trump stated.

The President further suggested that the ongoing issues between the two nations were a result of Ukraine’s current governance. He told the press, “He wants to make problems… I suggest they get a new leader,” referring directly to Zelensky.

The comments highlight a growing diplomatic friction as the White House continues to adjust its energy and sanctions policies amid the broader Russia-Ukraine war.

  1. Trump really missed the mark here. Telling an ally to ‘get a new leader’ during active conflict isn’t diplomacy, it’s abandonment.

  2. This approach feels incredibly risky. Lifting sanctions on Russian diesel just empowers their war machine while undermining Ukraine’s sovereignty.
