Arsenal recovered from a halftime deficit to defeat Leeds United 2-1 on Saturday, equalling Premier League leaders Manchester City on 15 points. The victory marks their fifth win in six league matches this season as they resumed their campaign following the international break.
Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to penetrate Leeds’ organized defense in the opening period. Noni Madueke, called upon to start on the left wing in place of the injured Christos Tzolis, along with Bukayo Saka on the right, found little room to operate against a backline that has surrendered only three league goals all season. Arsenal registered just one shot on target during the first half.
Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford and his defensive unit kept the scorelevel until the 55th minute, when defender James Justin capitalized on a well-executed move down the left flank. Following a cross from Gabriel Gudmundsson, Justin finished clinically from inside the box, sending the home crowd into silence.
Arsenal responded immediately, leveling the score seven minutes later through Riccardo Calafiori. The Italian defender headed home an unmarked finish from Ben White’s delivery to past Trafford.
The decisive moment arrived when substitute Bruno Guimaraes sealed the win with a powerful strike. The goal was the product of a fluid team move involving Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Declan Rice, showcasing the Gunners’ improved cohesion after the restart.
The result shifts the spotlight back to Manchester City, who face a daunting match against Liverpool on Sunday. City are preparing for a hostile atmosphere after being found guilty last week of over 100 breaches of Premier League financial regulations, though they retain a game in hand at the top of the table.
