LEGO revealed plans for a groundbreaking competition at New York Comic Con on Saturday, inviting enthusiasts to merge the Marvel and Star Wars universes into official brick-built sets. Marking the first time these two Disney-owned franchises will collaborate in a LEGO Ideas challenge, the event empowers fans to design cross-universe creations.
Filmmaker, actor, and Marvel Comics writer Kevin Smith, who is currently developing the upcoming “Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles” comic series, introduced the initiative. The comic, scheduled for release in January, will serve as the first official crossover between the two properties, arriving just ahead of Star Wars’ 50th anniversary in 2027.
“Working on the upcoming Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles comic series has been incredibly exciting, and this LEGO Ideas challenge reflects the same spirit of creativity inspired by these two iconic universes,” Smith said in a statement. “This challenge gives fans a chance to be part of something never done before and I can’t wait to see all of the creative Marvel and Star Wars mash ups it inspires!”
Participants can submit original builds across three distinct categories: vehicles, characters, and scenes. Potential entries might include reimagining iconic spacecraft with superhero technology, depicting characters from both franchises interacting, or constructing entirely new environments that blend the two worlds.
