EU Accelerates 46 Strategic Minerals Projects to Counter China Trade Risks

The European Union is deploying every available measure to prevent an impending trade conflict with China, according to Industry Commissioner Stéphane Séjourné. In a move designed to strengthen the bloc’s economic resilience, authorities confirmed their support for a significant expansion of critical materials infrastructure.

Séjourné revealed on Friday that the EU would back 46 new strategic initiatives focused on accelerating the supply of essential raw materials across member states by the year 2030. These projects include the development of facilities for lithium and rare earth elements, which are vital for green energy and technological industries.

The announcement underscores the bloc’s urgency in reducing its dependence on external suppliers, particularly China, which currently dominates the global processing of these strategic resources. By fast-tracking domestic production capabilities, the EU hopes to secure its supply chains and mitigate the risks associated with potential trade disruptions.
