Five Suspects Emerge from Manhattan Manhole in Third Recent Incident

Five individuals were observed emerging from a sewer access point on Manhattan’s Upper East Side in the early hours of Friday morning. The incident occurred around 2:10 a.m. on East 82nd Street and marks the third time authorities have responded to groups climbing out of manholes in New York City over the past few weeks.

According to reports, the group included at least one woman. After exiting the manhole, they fled the scene in a black SUV, last seen traveling toward East End Avenue. No arrests have been made in connection with this specific incident.

Police officers and personnel from the city’s Department of Environmental Protection responded to the location. During their investigation, officials recovered two shovels and two additional tools from the site.

This event follows a similar case from last month, when two men were arrested after being spotted in a manhole on the same neighborhood block. Kevin Rodriguez, 25, and Samuel Reveron, 25, both residents of Queens, were charged with trespassing and conspiracy. Law enforcement stated that the pair claimed they entered the sewer system to search for valuables discarded during storm drainage.

The recurring nature of these incidents has drawn attention from local authorities, though this latest group escaped without detention.

  1. Does the city not have better locks on these access points? It feels like an open invitation for trespassers.

  2. Fled in a black SUV like it’s a movie scene. I hope they catch them next time with all this evidence lying around.

  3. This is the third time in weeks? NYPD needs to address why this is happening repeatedly in one neighborhood.

  4. Searching for valuables in a sewer? I guess the economy is really that bad lately. Desperate times, weird methods.

  5. How are people even fitting through these manholes? That seems physically impossible for most adults.
