Green Party leader Zack Polanski has faced scrutiny regarding his absence from a contentious debate at his party’s conference concerning a motion that characterizes Zionism as a form of racism. When questioned by BBC Radio 4’s Nick Robinson, Polanski rejected suggestions that he was intentionally shirking the discussion.
He explained that he had been occupied with campaigning activities in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election at the time. The debate in question centered on a motion passed by party members which defined Zionism as an ideology underpinning an ethnonationalist Jewish state. Furthermore, the motion expressed support for a single democratic Palestinian state that would cover the territory currently constituting Israel.
Interesting they defined Zionism as racism in the motion. The single state proposal is quite radical.
Seems like a classic dodge. If it’s that important, make time for the debate instead of a by-election.
