Following his retirement at the age of 83, a grandfather found new purpose in creating social media content alongside his grandson, a journey that ultimately led to him breaking the world record for the oldest crowd surfer.
The pair’s viral success began in 2013, when the now-99-year-old was playing basketball with his grandson Ross in Ohio while Ross was home from college. Ross filmed a clip of his grandfather blocking his shot and uploaded it online, where it garnered significant attention.
Encouraged by the positive response, the two began producing comedy skits together. Their Instagram following has since grown to more than 4 million followers.
Determined to document their journey, they decided to produce a film about the grandfather’s life. During production, they compiled a list of his bucket list goals, which included breaking a world record.
After months of brainstorming ideas that were both outrageous and inclusive, they settled on the grandfather becoming the world’s oldest crowd surfer.
Hilarious and heartwarming. Most people my age are worried about tripping over rugs!
Wait, is he actually safe crowd surfing? I need to know the safety precautions they took.
Absolutely inspiring! This proves age is just a number when you have family by your side.
