Could Plague Return to Spain as Disease Persists in Modern Times

The bubonic plague, a pathogen responsible for devastating pandemics across Europe centuries ago, continues to exist in the modern era. Despite its historical notoriety, health authorities maintain that the likelihood of a significant resurgence in Spain is minimal.

Yvan Tissier, a microbiologist at the Pasteur Institute, emphasized that no large-scale epidemic has been recorded in recent decades. He noted that even when cases do occur, they are typically isolated incidents and remain highly treatable with antibiotics. According to Tissier, there is
