Rivian has introduced a new feature in its latest software release that allows R2 owners to view their pets from their smartphone lock screens. Following the 2026.36 update, drivers can utilize the vehicle’s high-definition interior camera to monitor animals left inside the car while they run errands.
Through the Rivian app, users can choose between a continuous live video feed or periodic snapshots displayed on their dashboard or lock screen. The camera stream can be terminated instantly by tapping the main vehicle display.
The update also expands functionality for Pet Mode, the climate control system designed to keep animals safe when they are left unattended. Drivers who forget to activate the feature before exiting can now enable it remotely via the app. To prevent accidental adjustments that could endanger pets, a confirmation prompt will appear when toggling the setting on or off. These app-based controls will roll out across all Rivian models.
In addition to pet-focused features, the R2 is receiving its first introduction to Rivian Assistant, an AI-driven voice interface previously exclusive to R1 models. The assistant allows occupants to manage navigation, entertainment, and climate settings through simple voice commands.
