During its recent Windows and Surface event, Microsoft revealed a significant expansion of its Copilot AI system, granting it access to local files on user computers and the ability to perform actions across the operating system. This upgrade is a core component of what the company terms “Hybrid Intelligence,” a strategy that combines local and cloud-based AI models to execute tasks more efficiently.
Jacob Andreou, Microsoft’s Executive Vice President of Copilot, demonstrated the capabilities of this system on stage. He used a video demo to show how Copilot, powered by Autopilot tools, could assist with complex tasks such as filing taxes. In the demonstration, Andreou instructed the AI agent to retrieve information from an email sent by his accountant, illustrating how the system can interact with both local data and external communications.
