Federal authorities have taken into custody an 18-year-old suspect accused of planning a mass casualty shooting at the Mall of America in Minnesota. U.S. Attorney Dan Rosen announced Wednesday that the arrest was made to prevent an attack allegedly carried out in support of the Islamic State (ISIS).
The suspect has been identified as Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud. The FBI initiated the arrest after intercepting plans for the potential violence at the popular shopping destination.
Rosen confirmed that charges have been filed against the teenager. This development marks a significant intervention by law enforcement to thwart a domestic terrorism threat. The case remains under active investigation.
