Survivor of Botched Tennessee Execution Conscious and Speaking, Lawyers Say

Lawyers for Christa Pike announced on Tuesday that the 50-year-old woman, who survived a failed execution at a Tennessee prison last week, is now conscious and able to speak. However, they cautioned that her long-term medical prognosis remains uncertain.

Pike was sentenced to death for a murder she committed as a teenager. During the procedure a week ago, prison officials administered what were believed to be two lethal doses of the barbiturate pentobarbital. The execution did not result in her death, marking a rare instance of a survivor of a botched lethal injection in the United States.

  1. I never thought I’d see a survivor of a lethal injection. Faint hope this case changes execution protocols forever.

  2. How can the justice system execute someone twice? This botched procedure raises serious ethical questions about capital punishment.
