Israeli Airstrikes in Lebanon Kill at Least Four, Shattering Ceasefire

At least four individuals were killed in Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon on Sunday, marking a significant breach of the ceasefire agreement between the two nations, according to Lebanese Health Ministry officials.

Lebanese authorities reported that approximately 20 additional people, including children, sustained injuries during the attacks. The strikes targeted the village of Arab Salim and the area surrounding Nabatieh al-Fawqa, which sits on the periphery of the security zone occupied by Israel.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) confirmed that an evacuation alert had been issued by the Israeli military earlier on Sunday, warning residents about a “Hezbollah facility” in Arab Salim. Following this, warplanes struck the building and a nearby home, destroying it completely. Two women were among those killed in the housing strike.

The conflict also resulted in the total destruction of an abandoned hospital. The Lebanese Health Ministry condemned the attack as a “grave violation of international humanitarian law.” However, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the target was a Hezbollah command center located within the structure, alongside a weapons depot. Military spokespersons described the operation as a response to a previous Hezbollah attack in the Ali Taher Ridge area and an attempted drone strike on IDF soldiers in the Security Zone.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun strongly denounced the events as a “dangerous escalation” aimed at civilian administrations and health centers. In a formal statement, his office declared the Israeli side fully responsible for the ongoing violations. President Aoun called upon the United States and the broader international community to intervene immediately to halt the breaches and hold the perpetrators accountable.
