Russian health authorities stated on Friday that there is no epidemic risk following the death of a worker at a microbiology institute, despite reports linking the incident to the plague.

According to the Rospotrebnadzor Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, one specialist from the regional branch of the Mikrob Scientific Research Institute in Ulyanovsk passed away. However, officials noted that information regarding the specific cause of death remains unavailable.

The institute holds special scientific and production status and is dedicated to the comprehensive study of bacterial pathogens causing highly dangerous infections.
