Microsoft to Host Windows and Surface Event Focused on Local AI and Hardware Updates

The Microsoft Windows and Surface event is scheduled to begin later today at 10 AM PT (1 PM ET) in San Francisco, with a broadcast running approximately one hour. The keynote will be available live on Microsoft’s YouTube channel. According to the company, the presentation will center on a “conversation on how local AI will shape the next chapter of the PC,” reflecting a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence capabilities.

This gathering marks Microsoft’s first laptop-focused event in two years and features prominent speakers including NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Pavan Davuluri, head of Windows and Devices. Given the collaboration with NVIDIA, industry observers anticipate significant updates regarding the Surface Laptop Ultra, which is built around the new RTX Spark superchip. NVIDIA claims this chip delivers one petaflop of AI computing power, aligning with the company’s recent pivot toward agentic AI, a model that requires minimal user input to function.

While the combination of the Surface Laptop Ultra and RTX Spark positions the device as a high-performance AI workstation, the pricing remains undisclosed and is expected to be revealed during the broadcast. It is unclear whether the market will embrace an AI-capable competitor to Apple’s MacBook at whatever price point is ultimately set.

Speculation regarding a Windows 12 reveal appears unfounded. Microsoft has publicly stated that no new operating system is planned for release in 2026. Consequently, the company is likely focusing its efforts on refining Windows 11 through visual updates, Start menu improvements, enhanced File Explorer functionality, and deeper AI integration. Releasing a new OS immediately prior to the Surface Laptop Ultra launch would also be counterproductive, as the device and its underlying hardware are optimized for Windows 11.

Our team will be covering the event live from the ground, providing real-time updates, hands-on impressions, and analysis of Microsoft’s announcements as they unfold.
