The M5 MacBook Air has fallen to its lowest price point since June, offering what is likely the best deal available for the laptop in the near term.
Despite this drop, the current price remains higher than listings seen earlier in 2026, when the device frequently sold for under $1,000. Historical comparisons also highlight that the laptop was available for just $749 during the 2025 Prime Day sales event. However, analysts suggest those lower price tiers are unlikely to return soon.
Other Apple laptops currently on offer do not present comparable value. The MacBook Neo is listed at a discount of only $10, a reduction it has maintained for several months. Meanwhile, the MacBook Pro continues to carry steep pricing resulting from Apple’s rate increase in June, with no significant sales announced for the week.
Furthermore, recent reports indicate that an updated MacBook Pro may launch later this year, potentially as early as October. This upcoming model is expected to feature OLED displays and serve as the first Mac to include a touchscreen. Given these developments, experts recommend waiting for the new release rather than purchasing the current generation.
For consumers seeking a bargain, the M5 MacBook Air remains the top recommendation. While legacy models such as the M4 version are still available, they lack the substantial discounts necessary to outweigh the benefits of the latest iteration.
I waited for the M3 and regretted not buying sooner. If you need a laptop now, the Air deal is probably the safest bet.
Seems like a classic trap. They drop the Air price slightly just to make the Pro look like a better value, or vice versa.
Touchscreen Macs?! Finally. But I’ll stick with the M5 Air for now since it’s actually discounted.
That $749 Prime Day price from 2025 is wild. Apple products have definitely gotten more expensive across the board.
Hoping the October MacBook Pro release brings down current Pro prices. Hard to justify paying top dollar right now.
