Gihan Arnolda Becomes Britain’s First Black Trainer, Sets Sights on Inspiring Future Generation

Gihan Arnolda has cemented his place in British racing history as the nation’s first Black or Asian licensed trainer. Operating from Cadland Cottage Stables in Newmarket, Arnolda sent out his inaugural runner in May 2026, with his first victory arriving just a month later.

The milestone achievement is seen as a significant step forward for diversity in the sport. Arnolda has stated that his primary motivation extends beyond personal success; he aims to use his position to inspire and pave the way for the next generation of trainers from underrepresented backgrounds.

His debut season marks the beginning of a new era for British horseracing, as the sport continues to examine and expand opportunities for diverse talent at the highest levels of training and licensing.
