Report: Next MacBook Pro with OLED Screen to Be ‘Significantly Lighter’

According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing to release a new high-end MacBook Pro that will feature both an OLED display and touch-screen capabilities. In addition to the upgraded screen technology, the laptop is reportedly significantly lighter than its predecessors. This weight reduction is attributed to Apple’s decision to miniaturize internal components and rearrange the laptop’s interior layout.

The device is expected to launch next month, coinciding with the release of the first iPad mini to utilize OLED technology. While specifications remain under wraps, previous reports indicate the new MacBook Pro will be powered by existing high-end M5 chips rather than the M7 processors anticipated for early 2027. Current MacBook Pro models range in weight from 3.4 pounds for the 14-inch version to 4.7 pounds for the 16-inch model.

Gurman suggests this product represents a major hardware milestone for John Ternus, who recently assumed the role of Apple’s CEO. Unlike his predecessor, Tim Cook, who was renowned for supply chain and logistics expertise, Ternus brings a background as a hardware engineer. He has reportedly prioritized rebuilding Apple’s design teams, which now report directly to him, signaling a renewed focus on product design under the new leadership.

  1. Significantly lighter sounds nice, but I bet ‘significant’ still costs a pretty penny. My wallet says no.

  2. Cool that Ternus is pushing hardware design. Hope the weight savings don’t compromise battery life too much.

  3. Using M5 chips now but promising M7 later feels like classic Apple pacing. Will wait for benchmarks.
