Sale Sharks claimed a vital 21-17 victory against Saracens in the Premiership, overcoming a significant disciplinary hurdle to secure their first win of the campaign. The Sharks held firm despite playing with ten men for the final twenty-seven minutes of the first half following the dismissal of Jacques Vermeulen.
Sale opened the scoring through Nathan Jibulu’s early try, which was successfully converted by Tom Ford. Although Eroni Mawi responded for Saracens, the visitors maintained a slender 7-5 advantage at the interval thanks to an improved defensive display.
After the break, Tom O’Flaherty extended Sale’s lead with a powerful run, building an 11-point cushion. However, Sione Va’Enuku and Charlie Bracken scored late tries for the home side, setting up a tense finish that Sale ultimately resisted.
Saracens dominated possession and territory during their numerical advantage but struggled to breach the Sharks’ resilient defense. The result marks a crucial turnaround for Sale, who had shown vulnerability earlier in the season.

Vermeulen’s red card changed everything. How did Sale keep their composure under that much pressure?
Hard to believe they couldn’t score more possession. Sale’s defense was simply too strong tonight.
What a gutsy performance! Holding on with ten men against the top side is sheer character.
