During the Oct. 3 episode of «Saturday Night Live,» a new cold open featured Andrew Dismukes and Ashley Padilla portraying Republican strategists tasked with generating enthusiasm for their party.
Marcello Hernández appeared as Marco Rubio, addressing constituents in Spanish and acknowledging that President Donald Trump has failed to meet expectations while his ongoing conflicts have not improved conditions. Mikey Day followed as a frozen Mitch McConnell, limited to offering a peace sign and accidentally breaking the fourth wall by prematurely attempting the iconic «Live from New York» intro.
Vice President JD Vance, played by Jeremy Culhane, made a brief appearance that poked fun at his lack of charisma; his character began a camera test by introducing himself before being dismissed.
The segment’s focal point arrived when Colin Jost returned as Pete Hegseth. Jost’s character immediately consumed one of Tom Holland’s Bero beverages, which he described as «Spider-Man’s New Non-Alcoholic B—- Beer.» He then urged Republicans to «do the gayest thing ever and vote.
Additionally, the sketch included a joke about putting «the God back in war,» claiming soldiers are praying more frequently, and a visit from Donald Trump, portrayed by James Austin Johnson. Trump’s character referenced his proposal to reimburse American voters $5,000 each in the event of a Republican midterm victory, adding that it wasn’t a bribe because he did not intend to follow through.
Dakota Johnson served as the episode’s host, with Turnstile performing as the musical guest.
