Jagex has announced the development of a new animation series based on the popular MMORPG “RuneScape.” The project is a collaboration between Jagex, Lyrical Animation, and content creator Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White. The news was revealed by Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy during a presentation at RuneFest in Birmingham, UK, on Saturday.
The upcoming series will adapt the medieval fantasy world of Gielinor for television, representing a significant expansion of the brand beyond its interactive gaming roots. Bellamy highlighted the long-standing relationship between the developer and its player base.
“For 25 years, our players have helped shape ‘RuneScape’s’ extraordinary world, its characters and its stories,” Bellamy said. “When we talk about the future of ‘RuneScape,’ we don’t just mean games. We see huge potential to bring Gielinor to life in new ways, both for the millions who already know and love it and for a whole new audience.”
White, who boasts a following of over 25 million across his digital platforms, has been an active member of the “RuneScape” community for 22 years. He expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, calling the franchise one of his favorite intellectual properties.
“I’m so excited to be working with the team on this project,” White said. Daniel Dominguez, creative director at Lyrical Animation, added that the studio is drawn to the unique tone of the source material. “RuneScape has such a unique storytelling voice, at once laugh-out-loud funny and effortlessly insightful,” he noted.
The original “RuneScape” launched in 2001 and has since evolved into a major fantasy multiplayer phenomenon. The franchise currently encompasses the main “RuneScape” title, “Old School RuneScape,” and the recently introduced “RuneScape Dragonwilds.”
Lyrical Animation will produce the series alongside White’s Meatier Productions. While development is still in its early phases, the teams plan to share additional details in 2027.
