Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has declared that he stands as the only obstacle preventing far-right “fascists” from regaining power, leading a massive demonstration through the streets of Rio de Janeiro on the eve of Sunday’s crucial vote.
The 80-year-old leftist leader stated that his decision to pursue a historic fourth term was driven by the belief that only he can stop the family of his right-wing opponent, Flávio Bolsonaro, from returning to government.
The upcoming election is widely regarded as one of the most significant in Brazil’s recent history, with Lula framing the contest as a decisive battle against the rise of fascism ahead of Sunday’s polls.
