Engadget has released the latest round of its Best of 2026 awards following an extensive evaluation period. The publication noted that it has assessed more than 130 items this year alone, ranging from smartphones and laptops to smart rings and kitchen appliances like toasters. Each product is scored on a 100-point scale, with ratings in 2026 currently spanning from 67 to 94.
The selection process for these honors goes beyond simply identifying the highest-scoring gadgets. To be considered, products must first achieve Engadget’s Editor’s Choice standard, which requires a minimum score of 90 out of 100. From there, editors compare items within specific categories to determine the top winner. For instance, while six laptops received the Editor’s Choice designation this year, only three have been selected as the best of their kind so far.
The team also acknowledged standout performers that narrowly missed the 90-point threshold but remained exceptional in their respective fields. Although none of the kitchen tech reviewed this year secured an Editor’s Choice award, Engadget still identified a top pick for that category based on overall performance.
Before finalizing the current list, reviewers revisited each product to confirm it still met its original launch standards, taking into account any recent price adjustments. In several instances, awards were withheld for categories expected to see major new releases later in the year. The list remains incomplete and will be updated soon to include winners for earbuds, headphones, tablets, Windows laptops, foldable phones, smart glasses, and potentially additional categories.
