Julianne Moore to Receive Lifetime Achievement Honor at Rome Film Festival

Academy Award winner Julianne Moore is set to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Rome Film Festival. The celebrated actress will also attend the Italian premiere of her latest film, “The Debut,” directed by Jesse Eisenberg, who will personally present her with the honor.

The announcement was made in a statement by Salvatore Nastasi, president of the Fondazione Cinema per Roma, the organization responsible for overseeing the festival.

This recognition follows a busy autumn for Moore, who received the Golden Icon Award at the Zurich Film Festival in September. Her upcoming project “The Debut” had previously premiered to critical acclaim at the Telluride Film Festival before launching internationally in Switzerland.

The film represents the third feature-length directorial effort for Eisenberg, marking his second collaboration with Moore. They previously worked together on his directorial debut, “When You Finish Saving the World,” which was released in 2022.

In “The Debut,” Moore portrays Mona Friedman, a timid housewife who lands a minor role in a community theater production. The character undergoes a dramatic transformation, becoming an obsessive Method actor determined to protect her part at all costs, even if it means conflicting with the production’s authoritarian director.

Writing for Variety, chief film critic Owen Gleiberman described the movie as a “twisted love letter to the glory of community theater.” He praised Eisenberg’s distinctive voice as a writer-director and highlighted Moore’s performance, noting how she effectively portrays a character who finally finds her opportunity to shine.

Moore’s extensive resume includes an Oscar win for “Still Alice” and nominations for “Far From Heaven,” “The Hours,” “The End of the Affair,” and “Boogie Nights.” She has also secured best actress awards at major European festivals, including Cannes for “Maps to the Stars,” Venice for “Far From Heaven,” and Berlin for “The Hours.” The Rome Film Festival is scheduled to run from October 13 to 25.
