Woody Allen Sets Madrid as Location for New Film with WestEnd Taking World Sales

WestEnd Films has secured world sales representation for director Woody Allen’s upcoming feature, which is scheduled to begin principal photography in Madrid on October 5. The contemporary comedy marks Allen’s third production filmed in Spain, following prior successes in the country with “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and “Rifkin’s Festival.”

The ensemble cast includes Marton Csokas, known for “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Equalizer,” alongside Jemima Kirke, who starred in “Girls” and “Sex Education.” Also joining the project are Jakob Oftebro, Peter Vives, and Alexi Wasser.

Shot in English, the film will utilize locations across the city and region of Madrid. Production involves a collaborative effort between Wanda Vision, based in Madrid, Allen’s Gravier Productions banner, and 3SIX9 Studios. Key creative roles are filled by José Luis Alcaine, Sonia Grande, and Alain Bainée.

Allen expressed enthusiasm about the location choice. “I will be very happy to return to Spain. This will be my third time filming there and my first opportunity to make a film in Madrid, a city I have always loved,” he said.

WestEnd Films plans to showcase the project to international buyers at the upcoming American Film Market. This engagement continues the distributor’s longstanding partnership with Gravier Productions; WestEnd previously handled global sales for Allen’s “Coup de Chance,” which debuted at the Venice Film Festival and was distributed in more than 30 countries. The company also manages a library of 25 Allen titles, including “Midnight in Paris,” “Match Point,” and “Blue Jasmine.”

Maya Amsellem, managing director of WestEnd Films, highlighted the continued collaboration. “We’re delighted to continue our long-standing collaboration with Woody Allen and his team. Following the strong international response to ‘Coup de Chance,’ we’re thrilled to bring his new film to market. It brings together an exciting international ensemble cast in Madrid, and we look forward to introducing it to buyers at AFM,” she stated.
