Universal Hollywood Builds Additional Sound Barrier for Fast & Furious Coaster After Noise Complaints

Universal Studios Hollywood has committed to constructing an additional sound barrier surrounding its newest attraction following numerous complaints from local residents regarding the noise generated by riders. During a community meeting attended by at least 350 people, park executives also announced that the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift rollercoaster will not operate between 8 AM and 9 AM for the remainder of the year.

The ride, which opened on September 16th, has already seen several noise-reduction measures implemented. These include an existing sound barrier, engineering the 72 mph coaster to minimize operational noise, and designing the rider cars to turn away from nearby residential areas to further dampen the sound of screams.

  1. This is a ridiculous situation. People pay good money to be screamed at; neighbors shouldn’t have to suffer.

  2. I’m just shocked a rollercoaster is this loud. Maybe invest in noise-canceling headsets for the riders instead?

  3. Good on them for actually listening. But 7 AM screams are brutal; hope they fix the morning hours too.
