Palestinians Prepare to Bury 105 Victims of Gaza Apartment Strike

Palestinian authorities are preparing to inter the remains of 105 individuals who died during a destructive Israeli military strike on Gaza City in October 2023. The victims perished when a series of air raids, involving at least 20 bombs, leveled the seven-story Al Taj 3 residential building and damaged nearby structures in the Yarmouk Square neighborhood on October 25, 2023.

According to the General Directorate of Civil Defence, a funeral procession carrying coffins containing the recovered remains will take place on Thursday, with family members participating. The interments will occur at the Sheikh Radwan cemetery located northwest of Gaza City.

Gaza’s civil defence service stated that the recovery effort was conducted in coordination with an Egyptian committee. Al Jazeera correspondent Ibrahim Khalili reported from Gaza City that this operation ranks as the fifth largest of its kind since Israel began its military campaign against Palestinians in October 2023, based on the volume of bodies recovered.

Abdul al-Majdalawi, director of civil defence operations, explained that immediate access to the victims was unfeasible following the attack. He noted that bulldozers, excavators, and other heavy machinery utilized by civil defence teams were deliberately targeted during the conflict.

Osama Sharaf revealed that 37 members of his family were killed in the bombing. He stated that while some relatives were recovered earlier in the war, 16 additional bodies were retrieved on Wednesday, including those of his parents, all his siblings, and his nephew.

  1. It’s alarming that civil defence machinery was deliberately targeted. That feels like a clear violation of humanitarian principles.

  2. I just can’t stop thinking about Osama Sharaf losing 37 family members. How does anyone find the strength to keep going?

  3. Wait, is this really the fifth largest recovery operation? That number seems oddly specific and detached from the human tragedy.

  4. The coordination with Egypt shows how international cooperation can help even in the worst conflicts. A small step toward humanity.

  5. This is heartbreaking. One hundred and five lives lost, and families still waiting years for closure.
