The Metropolitan Police have submitted a comprehensive evidence file to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) regarding the Grenfell Tower fire, marking a significant shift in the legal proceedings following the tragedy. The force described the submission as a “milestone moment” that establishes the foundation for rigorous charging decisions.
Prosecutors are now reviewing materials pertaining to 20 companies and organizations, as well as 54 individual defendants. The potential charges under consideration include manslaughter and fraud, reflecting the gravity of the allegations being examined by legal authorities.
Police officials stated that the handover of these files is designed to ensure that the CPS has access to the “very best possible evidence” before determining which cases proceed to trial.
