Netflix has added another title to its growing library of mobile games with the release of Codenames Party. The move continues the streaming giant’s ongoing effort to build out its suite of social and family-friendly gaming options over the past eighteen months.
As with other titles in the Netflix Games catalog, players can join Codenames Party by scanning a QR code and playing directly on their smartphones, eliminating the need for additional controllers or hardware.
The word association game originally began as a physical board game before moving to digital platforms. The traditional experience features two competing teams, each guided by a Spymaster who provides one-word clues to help teammates identify specific target words on the board.
The Netflix version retains the classic team-based gameplay and also includes a “Case Studies” mode. In this variant, all participants work from pre-made word sets and clues rather than taking turns as individual Spymasters.
The newest addition, Party Mode, shifts away from team competition. Instead, each player receives their own unique set of eight words from a shared pool of sixteen. Participants must craft a single clue to connect their personal words while attempting to guess the words chosen by other players. Points are awarded for successfully identifying others’ targets and for having one’s own words correctly guessed by the group.
The launch marks a significant addition to Netflix’s interactive offerings, appealing to users looking for quick, engaging social games without requiring setup or extra equipment.
