The administration of US President Donald Trump has launched a new digital portal called America.gov, intended to streamline public access to federal government information and services.
Described by White House officials as a “unified digital front door,” the platform allows users to interact in plain language and receive accurate answers without navigating numerous agency-specific websites. In some cases, it will enable users to complete government transactions directly, such as applying for a passport or submitting photos.
The initiative was announced on Tuesday alongside several Cabinet members, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. During the presentation, Rubio demonstrated the site’s capabilities and indicated that future features could allow Americans to apply for passports entirely through the platform.
According to Joe Gebbia, the chief design officer, the website is powered by artificial intelligence models from Google’s Gemini and xAI’s Grok. The executive order establishing the site emphasizes data security, stating that user information will not be stored by America.gov but will instead adhere to the security protocols of the specific government agencies involved. For instance, data related to Medicare would remain with that agency rather than being retained by the new central site.
President Trump highlighted the platform’s utility for citizens seeking information on elections and citizenship applications. He asserted that the website does not store user data and praised the simplified access it provides.
Testing conducted by Al Jazeera showed the site directing users to official channels for sensitive records, including individual tax information, citizenship files, political donations, and Securities and Exchange Commission filings. When queried about political topics, such as who won the 2020 presidential election or the status of media outlets, the AI provided neutral responses, confirming Joe Biden as the winner and declining to label news sources.
The project was developed in coordination with the National Design Studio, an entity within the Executive Office of the President established by Trump in August 2025.
