NATO Secretary-general Mark Rutte has stated that Russia’s recent sabotage and drone activities are failing to weaken the alliance’s backing of Ukraine.
During a live briefing, Rutte highlighted the downing of a drone in Lithuanian airspace by NATO fighter jets two weeks prior as a key example of the growing threats along the alliance’s eastern flank. He emphasized that these repeated incidents demonstrate the evolving nature of the danger and are prompting NATO to strengthen its integrated air and missile defense systems.
“We are adapting and reinforcing our posture against drones,” Rutte said, while warning that Russia continues its “reckless campaign of hostile actions against NATO allies.”
Rutte makes a strong case, but reinforcing air defenses takes years. We need immediate practical support for Ukraine now.
Does anyone else find it suspicious that the drone was downed near the border? Or is that just paranoia setting in?
It is frightening how routine these incidents have become. NATO staying united is the only real deterrent left here.
Adapting posture against drones is essential, but I hope it doesn’t divert resources from other critical defense needs.
